Dark + Speed is a book of double exposure photographs by artist Ryan Thompson. Thompson explores a technique similar to collage using traditional film and multiple in camera exposures. The book has a gritty aesthetic due to the printing method. First prints were made from the original film. These prints were then photocopied and scanned in on a Risograph duplicator which created the final output.

Dean Garlick’s debut novel, a present-day Jonah story.

The Fish explores currents of contemporary existence in a realm where the brutality of history is ever-present and the will to exist is the only thing keeping a person from fading into nothingness.

The Fish is a book of fiction by Dean Garlick and illustrated by Erik Volet.

Book Synopsis: Patrick Kaye thinks he’s taking a harmless Caribbean cruise, a well-earned escape from his day-to-day life as an addictions counsellor. What he gets instead is a near-death experience that lands him in the belly of a mythological beast—the very same creature that swallowed Jonah. Inside, he encounters a confounding world populated by a host of colourful residents: a 19th-century British gentleman, a pre-Christian Icelandic shaman, a survivor of the biblical flood, a Ukrainian prostitute, an Asian American stock market analyst, a Maori warrior and a sadistic little girl, to list a few. The Fish explores currents of contemporary existence in a realm where the brutality of history is ever-present and the will to exist is the only thing keeping a person from fading into nothingness. Can Patrick accept this new reality? Can he right the wrongs he sees around him? Or will the call of the outside world offer enough hope to send him searching for a way home?

Author Bio: Dean Garlick is an educator and writer living in Montreal. Fantastical permutations of reality abound in his work as a response to his characters' frustrations with the absurdity and struggle of everyday existence, but they have nothing whatsoever to do with his real life. Nothing. He is excited by the possibilities presented by illustrated fiction, especially the potential to explore multiple, non-parallel modes of narrative within a single piece.

The artist SpooF has released a limited edition postcard which spoofs a recent Banksy artwork. The Banksy artwork is a piece of stone engraved with a Pablo Picasso quote "The bad artists imitate, the great artists steal." Picasso's name has been scratched out, and scrawled underneath "BANKSY".

SpooF has taken/stolen these ready-made images from the internet and repackaged them as a postcard / print. The postcard is a statement of how art works it's way into mainstream culture and commerce as well as questions ownership of ideas and moral issues of copyright infringement.

Abracadabra - Art Anthology

Abracadabra is a compilation of 34 artists’ work inspired by the theme of Magic and Metaphysics. It is a celebration of the otherworldly, an embracing of the unexplainable, an interaction with the symbolic, a salute to the weird and whimsical, a wander into the forest of the fantastical. It is a witches brew of ideas, subject matter, expression and style, boiled in the imagination of two lovers.

The word Abracadabra derives from ancient times and was used as an incantation, or prayer, to ward off disease and evil spirits. Several theories surround its origin but it most likely derives from the Aramaic avra kehdabra, which means "I create as I speak," in reference to God creating the universe. Its phonetic origin is of three Hebrew words; ‘ab’ meaning father, ‘ben’ meaning son, and ‘ruach acadosch’ meaning holy spirit. As title to this book, Abracadabra is used to conjure up new interpretations and thoughts surrounding the meaning of Magic. It is intended to create as we speak a collection of art which stirs and inspires creative explorations into the unconscious mind. It is intended to encourage through art an investigation into the wonders of this earth, the magnificence of creation, the endlessness of possibility and our place within it.

“The drawings collected in the present volume represent a fragment of a much larger work; years of incantations and descents into the emptiness of self are here displayed in a fractured and fragile way, for that which they represent cannot be given in a singular stroke. But they serve to provide us with a glimpse of another grand attempt, another striving towards the centre, another drawing aside of the veil. In these works can be seen the manipulations of a magus born in an age when it has been decreed that such a creature shall not be. Here can be seen a desire to create and recreate another system of nature, where the dead light of fluorescent bulbs can no longer blind us in our dreaming. Here we see the hand moving in the act of tracing the transformations of point and line across the encompassing whiteness of new time, where the cartoon representation of a human face stands as the irreducible representation of that real with which all our sciences struggle. It is only in the image of the face of the other that we find the reflection of the order of the self sought by all our symbolic orders.” - Ami Joseph Brosseau, August 2007

Review by Juxtapoz Magazine:
“Sometimes a book comes along, you don’t know where it came from, but you put it on your desk and everyday you find yourself flipping through the pages impressed by what you see. I’m into British Columbia now. I like Vancouver, I like the islands and I like the art. This book is helping with all that because theMake collects the work of artists primarily from Victoria and Vancouver. What makes theMake attractive is that it acts like a reference guide, a dictionary if you will, of the makers and shakers on the British Columbian coast.”

Review by Color Magazine:
“Up until a few years ago I would never have associated Canada with anything but old maids that painted landscapes. The Feast is a Canadian based artbook that has some bad-ass artists, such as Luke Ramsey, Shawn O’Keefe, Ben Tour, Pete Taylor and 48 others. She’s 176 pages of crisp black and white illustration and inspiration. For the $15 it costs, you had better buy two of ‘em. The landscape has been changed. ”
