“Charcoal” was a famous aboriginal outlaw in Fort Macleod, Alberta. This print was created based on a photograph taken just days prior to the execution of Charcoal. The clothes in the portrait were provided by the photographer (Steele). The large hat was used by the condemed man to hide his handcuffs.
