OuterSpace Gallery is pleased to host "The Many Faces of Koyama Press" the first in an ongoing series of publisher spotlight exhibitions at Outerspace Gallery. We wish to provide arts publishers a platform to show their various publications side by side, to truly allow the viewer an understanding of the publishers vision.

We will be exhibiting the near complete catalog of publications produced by the crucial Canadian comics and art publisher Koyama Press.

We will also be exhibiting the artwork of six artists who have been published by Koyama Press - Patrick Kyle, Jesse Jacobs, Luke Ramsey, Tin Can Forest, Alex Schubert and Allister Lee .

This exhibition is for everyone who enjoys art, comics/graphic novels and books in general.

Aaron Noble - Rebuilding a Super Heroe

Aaron Noble's paintings look like super heroes deflating like a balloon and zig-zagging across the universe. Aaaron uses images found in 90's comics (most notably published by IMAGE). Theses abstracts are instantly recognizable as comic like to some, but comic readers will see the image as a mashup of characters. These characters have been brilliantly transformed to erase the branding and identity that has been painstakingly designed into the series.

Aaron Noble

Jeff Koons | Easyfun-Ethereal

Nobles's paintings brought to mind Jeff Koons series EasyFun-Ethereal although much more abstract. Koons does not abstract his imagery as much as crop and collage but it is the use of certain parts to create the new which is similar. Whether we've eaten a"Pop Tart" or not our generation will identitfy and the same goes for comics. These super human characters seem to have lost their extraordinary powers due to the lack of human muscle structure, but gained god like status.

BONG34 - GLÖMPX 10th issue of Glömp is a trip to 3-dimensional comics, last book edited by its founder Tommi Musturi. This is also +10-years-anniversary issue of the anthology - big bang, colourful hardcover baby that features 15 Finnish artists. This book is another half of the whole GlömpX project that we've been working on for past 12 months. The other half is an exhibition that will be touring around Europe 2009-2010. And if that's not enough, the book features a CD with exclusive soundtrack by Amon Düde, Nuslux, Kiiskinen, The Hoopo and Fricara Pacchu.

Andy Rementer's - Techno Tuesday

The best way to start a tuesday. Andy Rementer's ‘Techno Tuesday’ began as an exercise in drawing comics and complaining. In fact it still is, after it’s inception in January of 2006. The comic, which is based on technology and the modern world, originally appeared on the Fabrica blog. And has since been published elsewhere online as well as in print. It has been featured in Adbusters magazine, Clark magazine, and exhibited at Lift in Switzerland, and the Pompidou Centre in Paris.

Some of my favourites from the archive.
