Matthew Palladino
"Citing influences including Jim Jones, the tiger that escaped from the SF zoo earlier this year and the Mission School, 22 year-old artist Matthew Palladino's paintings are, to say the least, bizarre. Primarily working on watercolor paper, images of gang members, drug dens and bleeding bodies are rendered in simplified shapes with rich, saturated colors.
The faux-naive allusions are many — Darger, , Dzama, Clare Rojas, Chris Johanson, among others — but the SF-native's honesty shines through in his meticulous detail and the freely-associated subjects. And his sense of composition likely has to do with a stint at the California College of Art. To learn more, check out the Fecal Face interview." - Cool Hunting

Andy Rementer's - Techno Tuesday
The best way to start a tuesday. Andy Rementer's ‘Techno Tuesday’ began as an exercise in drawing comics and complaining. In fact it still is, after it’s inception in January of 2006. The comic, which is based on technology and the modern world, originally appeared on the Fabrica blog. And has since been published elsewhere online as well as in print. It has been featured in Adbusters magazine, Clark magazine, and exhibited at Lift in Switzerland, and the Pompidou Centre in Paris.
Some of my favourites from the archive.
Andy Rementer is a graphic designer/cartoonist based in Philadelphia. He received a bachelors degree from The University of the Arts in Philadelphia in 2004. From 2005 to 2007 he worked for Fabrica, while living in a medieval town in northern Italy. Outside of his nine-to-five gig, Andy enjoys drawing in his sketchbook and making comics.
Howie Tsui - Of Shunga and Monsters
Howie Tsui has a new series of painting/drawings up on his site. I had a chance to see Howie's band The Acorn play with Obijou the other night. They are currently on a North American tour heading down through the states. If your into folky indie rock go see them , they put on a good show. Check out Howie Tsui's art in the book theMAKE.

Pulp Fiction at Museum London
Pulp Fiction Museum London - July 26 to November 16
Organized by guest curator Corinna Ghaznavi, this exhibition examines the work of a new generation of graphic artists, contextualizing their work within national and international trends. While the works in Pulp Fiction do not necessarily contain lurid subject matter, they tend to be loose, non-linear narratives that incorporate a comic-book aesthetic and multiple references to popular culture. Strange characters float across the page or screen, seemingly disjointed small scenes are found on the same page, and text is often present. Where there is a narrative it most often takes strange twists and turns that are darkly humourous or sometimes simply wry, or simple observations on the world around us.
The exhibition of drawing, painting, video and installation features work by Marc Bell and Peter Thompson, Tasha Brotherton, Barry Doupe, Liz Garlicki, James Kirkpatrick, The Lions (Tasha Brotherton, Matthew Brown, Barry Doupe, Collin Johanson, James Whitman), Amy Lockhart, Jason McLean and Mark DeLong, Jennie O’Keefe, Seth Scriver and Shayne Ehman.

KRAZY! @ the Vancouver Art Gallery
I wasn't that KRAZY! about the current show at the VAG. It was worth seeing, but felt like I had missed something after the experience. I slipped between the cracks of the target audience the VAG was going for. The show seems to be directed towards people who have no prior contact with the comic industry and for the die hards that want to see original sketches etc. I had hoped to gleen an inside look into the artists and their work, but ended up seeing allot of pages from comics I have read. What else could the VAG done, to make the experience more fulfilling? I don't know. Projecting Akira on 4 opposing walls of an enormous room seems like filler to me. KRAZY! puts comics & anime on a fine art pedestal which I believe they deserve to be, but they don't seem to be comfortable standing up there.
The huge inflatable character created by Jeff Ladouceur hanging from the front of the VAG. By the time we got to check the show the character had deflated. It seemed fitting. Photo to come, I have to get the film developed...
I'm still digesting the show so don't have much to add to the debate, but you can read more about what others think of the KRAZY! show at the VAG here:

Gregory Euclide Profile
Anteism contributing artist Gregory Euclide has been profiled by YouWorkForThem.(Check out all the other awesome profiles.) Gregory Euclide is an artist and teacher living in the Twin Cities of Minnesota. His attraction to the landscape originates from his experience of growing up in the rural landscapes of Wisconsin. Free to roam from farm field to forest edge, he developed an appreciation for authentic experience within the natural landscape. The complexity and interconnectedness of the environment had a profound impact on him as a child and would become the content and conceptual framework for his future work.
After teaching high school art for three years in southern Minnesota, he took a teaching job in the Twin Cities. In 2001 Gregory was awarded a summer residency at the Minneapolis College of Art and Design. This time allowed him the opportunity to explore a number of materials and techniques important to the development of later works. In the past few years Gregory has shown his work at over one hundred events and locations in the Twin Cities. He has been awarded a a Minnesota State Arts Board Artist Initiative Grant and a Jerome Foundation Residency through the Blacklock Nature Sanctuary. Currently he is teaching high school art and attending graduate school at The Minneapolis College of Art and Design on a Trustee Scholarship.
BLU - "MUTO" - Animation painted on walls.
BLU is an Italian artist known for his HUGE murals depicting baby like bald headed men often missing limbs. His murals have been an inspiration for many artists. Blu has also been creating wall animations, which he paints the frames of an animation on abandoned walls. Using the form of walls his characters react to the shapes and textures they are painted on. This short film is possibly the most insane animation work you'll see in your lifetime.
